Ariel, the protagonist of Walt Disney Pictures’ 28th animated film “The Little Mermaid” (1989), is a fictional character. She also features in the film’s prequel television series (1992—1994), the direct-to-video sequel “The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea” (2000), and the direct-to-video prequel “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning” (2008). Jodi Benson provides the voice for Ariel in all official animated appearances and associated merchandise. Ariel holds the distinction of being the fourth Disney Princess, the first princess who isn’t human, and the solitary princess who embraces motherhood, having her own child.
